Writing at Seabridge
At Seabridge we want to develop writers who can think carefully about the content to ensure that it is for the correct audience, is written in the right tone and for the correct purpose. Whilst some aspects of grammar and punctuation are taught explicitly, we also link this to writing task so as the children can see the application within a piece of writing.
Characteristics of a writer:
- The ability to write fluently and with interesting detail on a number of topics throughout the curriculum.
- A vivid imagination which makes readers engage with and enjoy their writing.
- A highly developed vocabulary and an excellent knowledge of writing techniques to extend details or description.
- Well-organised and structured writing, which includes a variety of sentence structures.
- Excellent transcription skills that ensure their writing is well presented and punctuated, spelled correctly and neat.
- A love of writing and an appreciation of its educational, cultural and entertainment values.
Writing Key documentation
Below are the annual spelling sheets for your child's year group. Children in Year 1 will take part in a spelling test relating to the graphemes being taught in English and some high frequency words and as such do not have a set spelling sheet.
If you have any questions, please contact your child's English teacher.
Aspirations for the future:
At Seabridge we are always thinking about how to prepare our children for the next stage in their learning journey and beyond. We regularly talk to the children about their aspirations and take the time to consider the jobs that English is needed for.
The children have all completed aspiration jars to allow them to think about the career they would like to have.
If you really enjoy English (whether that reading or writing), here are some of the jobs you could aspire to do in the future:
- Journalist
- Author
- TV Presenter
- Police
- Attractions manager
